The Impact Social Media Has on Employee Recognition Programs

I recently had a conversation with a colleague who was trying to understand how digital strategies like social media and gamification are being used in employee incentive/recognition programs. They wondered just how influential they were in driving development of employee recognition programs.
My answer was simple - 100% influential.
Your employees have an expectation of being able to build their personal legacy within the organization – just like outside the corporate intranet, where they are able to celebrate their successes and those of their friends. Today’s knowledge worker expects the same opportunity within the workplace.
While many organizations continue to rely on monetary rewards and points-based systems to motivate employees, we've found that non-monetary, peer-to-peer employee recognition not only costs less in the short term but pays off significantly in the long run.
